This is our 13th Annual Neurocritical Care Symposium featuring a two-day conference designed to discuss innovative strategies to treat neurotrauma, cardiac arrest and other neurologic emergencies.
This two-day conference is designed to explore modern approaches to patient care for patients with ICU delirium, anoxic brain injury, traumatic brain injury, coma, stroke, brain hemorrhage, and seizures. The main plenary session will explore essential core concepts for personalized patient care, review of essential guidelines, and in-depth discussion of modern approaches to saving the brain in critically ill patients. The hands-on workshop is designed to explore brain monitoring techniques and novel therapeutic interventions. Interactive lectures supplemented with discussion groups, simulation training, and hands-on workshops will provide unique learning that transcends the usual CME course, and enable participatory learning for maximal impact on your practice.

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Implement non-invasive brain monitoring in comatose patients
- Treat neurologic emergencies such as status epilepticus and brain trauma
- Formulate treatment protocols for brain hemorrhage using evidence-based medicine
- Enable the use of novel treatments for cardiac arrest and brain resuscitation
- Understand the emerging role of stimulation treatments for coma and disorders of consciousness
- Make use of emergency response systems for acute ischemic stroke

The California State Board of Registered Nursing accepts courses approved by the AMA for Category 1 credit as meeting the continuing education requirements for license renewal. Nurses from states other than California should inquire with their local state board for specific continuing education policies.
The FDA has issued a concept paper which classifies commercial support of scientific and educational programs as promotional unless it can be affirmed that the program is ”truly independent” and free of commercial influence. In addition to independence, the FDA requires that non promotional, commercially supported education be objective, balanced, and scientifically rigorous. The policy further states that all potential conflicts of interest of the CME staff and faculty be fully disclosed to the program's participants. In addition, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education policy mandates that the provider adequately manages all identified potential conflicts of interest prior to the program. We at UCLA fully endorse the letter and spirit of these concepts.
